Ear mites are common parasites found in dogs and cats. Though ear mites are bad for your pet, they don’t dig deep and they’re easier to control than other parasitic infections. You can prevent these tiny parasites from infecting your four-legged friend by taking your pet to the vet and applying home remedies. These home remedies for ear mites in dogs will not cure the infestation as easily as prescription drugs, but will ultimately be effective in removing the parasites. For this purpose, you will need to apply home remedies more frequently and for a longer period of time than other prescription or over-the-counter remedies.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid that removes debris and dirt from the ears of your dog. Most importantly, it destroys the bacteria and the yeast. However, if your dog’s ears are red and sore, you shouldn’t be using vinegar because it’s going to be painful. Mix equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and distilled water to make a natural dog’s ear mite remedy at home. Next, put the mixture in the syringe and squirt a few drops into your dog’s ear. Alternatively, soak a cotton ball in this mixture and gently clean your dog’s ear flap. Don’t use tap water to create a solution as it can infect your dog’s ear.
Coconut Oil
Pets are vulnerable to ear infections caused by bacteria, yeasts and ear mites. Apply a few drops of coconut oil to your pet’s ears every day to soothe irritation, clear up bacteria, kill mites, and keep their ears clean and safe.
Baking Soda and Water
Dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of hot water. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and rub it in the ears of your dog. Repeat this every day until you are certain that all the mites are dead.
Antiseptic Tea Rinse
Homemade antiseptic tea rinses are also a perfect home cure for ear mites in dogs. Green tea is an antiseptic that can be used to disinfect the ears of your dog. Chamomile tea is also excellent for combating infections and irritation of the skin.
First, take a pinch of chamomile or green tea leaves and put in a cup of hot water for five minutes. Next, strain the leaves out of the water and let the mixture cool down. Then use the green tea to rinse your dog’s ears. If your dog has any pus, discharge, or congealed blood, it is best to clean it out before dealing with this or any other procedure.
Honey or Vinegar
Two completely different substances, but both of them do a fantastic job of cleaning up your dog’s ears. Add a few teaspoons of each of them in warm water, stir until dissolved, and apply with cotton wool or an eye dropper.
